What is Chinese Astrology ?

Many people know their Western Zodiac sign... but don't know about Chinese Zodiac Astrology Sign. Chinese astrology is very old branch of Astrology. No one actually knows how old it is.

The Chinese astrology is based on the traditional astronomy and calendars. Western Astrology is based on the Solar Year, so the two do not exactly coincide. The Chinese Zodiac Signs are like the Western Horoscope Signs in that there are twelve of them. Western Astrology is based upon the months of the year, Chinese Astrology is based upon a twelve year lunar cycle. Each of the twelve Chinese Zodiac Signs is represented by a particular animal. The Chinese Zodiac Signs are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Lamb, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. Which sign and element you are or that relates to a place or event is determined by the year that it came into being. The Chinese Astrology is based on Yin/Yang, the 12 animals and the 5 elements.

Legend has it the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac were chosen by Buddha. When Buddha was near death he invited all the animals to visit him. Only 12 came: the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. For visiting him, Buddha honored each by using them to represent the 12 phases of the Zodiac.
